Kids Helping Kids:: Fight Malaria!

recently i had the wonderful honor of joining Vivian Glyck and  Just Like My Child, along with a group of dedicated students at the Mission Bay Montessori Academy for a Be the Change fund raising event.  Just Like My Child is a locally based NGO dedicated to empowering communities in rural Uganda, and Be the Change is a simple, educational activity designed to raise money to combat malaria in these villages.  It teaches kids about issues beyond their own borders and shows them how their own efforts can truly make a change in other people’s lives.

each class collected spare change over a period of a few weeks, and these eager volunteers got together to count up just how much was raised.  in the end, they collected over $800!  pretty amazing, especially when you see just how far this money can go and consider that it came from spare pocket change.  just a few dollars can purchase a bednet, and $20 can protect six children from the life threatening effects of malaria.  way to go guys!!
