weddings

wedding photograph info

i love shooting weddings.  i don’t know how else to say it.  it’s FUN. i meet the coolest people and spend one of the most important days of their lives with them, and am charged with the incredible responsibility of preserving the day with honesty, sincerity and creativeness.  from a technical standpoint, they’re challenging.  the day is in constant motion. the environment, lighting, faces and conditions are always changing and the unexpected happens frequently.  i have to keep on my toes.  it’s a whirlwind of activity, full of spontaneous emotion and always always exciting.  it’s a thrill for me to wake up and not know what’s in store for of the day, and i have a big warm fuzzy feeling for knowing i am preserving moments that people will remember for a life time.  it’s a huge responsibility, but i can’t imagine anything much more rewarding.

my approach to wedding photography is largely photojournalistic with a fun, creative touch.  i tell the story of your day without directing or being intrusive and i avoid cheese as much as humanly possible. i believe your photos should reflect the natural emotions and activities of the day and document your celebration. and while my approach is anything but traditional, i do take family photographs.  i also enjoy taking fun, casual portraits with my couples and bridal parties.

my editing is also very straight forward.  i do not do a lot of photoshoppery.  if you’re looking for a bronze glow, red roses in an otherwise black and white photo or superimposed unicorns, i am  not the photographer for you.  i create clean, natural, punchy images that will tell your story and that will also stand the test of time.

i have all pro gear, and a ton of it which i’m constantly adding to and updating.  whoever tries to tell you that it’s the photographer and not the gear has not had their hands on a Canon L-series lens yet.  while no amount of experience, training and gear can teach someone to have an artistic eye, there is simply no substitute for the proper equipment.  but, don’t knock the experience factor, either.  i’ve shot 100+ weddings to date, and i am still learning something new every single week.

i am a northern virginia / washington dc wedding photographer but am available nation-wide with frequent trips to southern california.  i am also available for a limited amount destination weddings per year.
