engagement sessions rock! why you ask? well, i’m gonna tell ya.

first, you’re going to get some amazing images of yourselves. chances are you are not professional models and have never been the subjects of a professional photo shoot. here’s your chance. you’ll have great photos to display at your wedding, on your walls or just to show off to friends and family instead of the drunken party photos you have posted on facebook or those pics you took when were you were traveling and you’re about 1 millimeter tall standing in front of the eiffel tower and you really can’t even make out your faces.. yeah, you know the ones.
second, and just as important if not more important, is that we get the chance to work together. as you are not professional models, being in front of the camera can be scary. this gives you the chance to get more comfortable and see what it’s like. i also get the chance to see how you interact as a couple and how the three of us gel together. we’ll find out how we all work together and by the time your wedding day arrives we’ll be old friends and i won’t be some odd stranger sticking a camera in your face. you will be more at ease, i’ll know what makes you most comfortable and your photos will look better for it.
when and where?
engagement sessions are an incredibly relaxed and FUN affair. let me know what kind of setting reflects you best- are you earthy outdoor types? gritty urban emo kids? the quaint, cute kind that would look good walking down cobble stoned streets of old town or georgetown? a mix? just let me know. course i have tried and true locations but i’m always game to try something new and will offer technical suggestions based on what i know of the geography and the lighting conditions.
because weekends are my main work days, generally sessions are scheduled on weekdays, and most often couples will take a half day off of work- though in the late spring and summer this isn’t usually necessary as the sun goes down later. weekdays also help us avoid crowds. sessions are usually in the afternoon about an hour and a half before sunset to catch the best light.
guest sign in books
some couples want big prints with wide mats displayed at their weddings for guests to sign, and others are looking for something more subtle. guest sign books are a really cool way to display images of your rockin’ selves in love and also provide space for special messages from your guests. the have a hard photo cover, and have thicker, lay flat pages with a slightly matte finish appropriate for writing on. they look amazing.
tips!
WHAT DO I WEAR? Neutral colors are the best- try to avoid white and any super bright colored shirts as they’ll reflect of your face. Wear comfey shoes! We do alot of walking around and you should be comfortable. We also do a lot of sitting and standing- jeans always look great and give you the freedom to move around. Layers also tend to look great- jackets, scarves.. but really, lots of rules, right? ultimately, wear what reflects you best.
